my wings!

I've just received my timetable for the next 7 weeks.
I'm starting wards! And already I've forgotten how to take a full complete history.
Kheng Xiong followed me into A&E the other day and we took histories from different patients (since turnover in A&E is high! hehe)
He took nearly 1hr30min history from this person who had been referred by their GP for hyperkalemia.
And I, took a 5 minute history.

Its not that I'm better but theres no point taking social and other histories when
a) the patient has to be out of a&e within 4 hours of admission
b) They treat not do prophylactic or investigations for anything except the problem they came with.

AND MY POINT IS:
I probably wouldn't know what to ask for full histories anymore.

And I think I will hate wards.

Anyway, so far:
I lost my virgin rectal examination to a patient with rectal cancer
I lost my virgin venepuncture procedure to someone with Parkinsons

How is this even grossly interesting as a reflective piece?

SHEFFIELD
(30th Oct - 1st Nov)

So! Was planning on staying home halloween weekend when Rosie told me she'd pay for half my ticket if I visited! haha Which showed me she loves me, so I decided I will pay for myself and pay her a visit :)
Went after Friday lectures (sensibly), and caught a cab to Glossop Road!

Cabs in Sheffield are such ripoffs. They dont have meters and go by "distance". Bastards.
Taxi there was 4.70 and taxi back to the station was 5.50.
I hate that there was no stadardized pricing (that said, it isn't standardized in Preston either, but at least we know everytime it goes up by 10p) RAWR!

Rosie's yellowy room :) Hehe I would choose yellow over blue-any day!

On arrival, met Rosie's housemates and they were all planning to go out to the pub already!
This stressed me plenty because being in Preston and not caring about anything except hygiene and what to cook for the next meal and maybe how to build rapport with patients.....
I had no idea what to wear. HAHAHA.

Speaking of which, I've started wearing my trainers (yes, the big ass new balance ones) around town, hospital, church---you name it :) Something I havn't done for a very long time. Anyway they're comfortable and because I live in Preston---I don't give a rats bottom.

ANYWAY. Had to get ready since everyone else was.
We had pre-drinks before going out; kopparberg and this vodka thing sitting in Rosie's room.
Went to Bears and Bungalows (or something like that)......And then I realised....Preston is a dead town hahaa ;p
It was so packed!
Had pizza across the road (mercato's or summat)

and home to sleep at 2am!

The next day was spent at home playing Sims 3 (on our respective computers) because rosie and I couldnt pull ourselves out of bed.
Its funny because every once in a while one of us would check twitter (via mobile) and then proclaim what this or that person said...and then the other person would check twitter (via mobile).

Twitter IS our Gossip Girl

hahahaha

When we finally decided it was time to go out---we had very limited time to shop for my outfit for that night.....and buy pre party drinks!!!

[But we did burn pancakes...and set off the firealarm. Epic fail. So I cooked us bacon and eggs. And later that night I cooked us bacon linguini? haha DOMESTIC GODDESS :p]

We had Greggs before going to the halloween shop (which had a massive queue). After deciding I had nothing to wear even if I was going to become a vampire, I decided to buy my prettiful wings and go as something wingy HAHA

It was 5pounds for wings yo.

;p My wings and Dan Ash (supposed mummy haha)

Halloween night was to be spent in this club called CLIMAX.
And the theme was Witches and Bitches. Though not really a theme since everyone seemed to be zombies and I just looked like a normal person with wings!

Our pre-party drinks was this superunsaturated vodka that might as well have been sugar water because we were all spankin sober.

Charlie Chuckleberries (Rosie's lover) with his fangs. He went as a vampire and looked really good with his hair all combed and gelled back!

Rosie and I getting ready.
She tried so hard to look dead (green eyeliner around her eyes) and sprayed whitish stuff on her head...but she still looks lovelyyyyyyy (methinks :] )
She's wearing a cool vampire cape toooo!

1st Pit stop: Some pub along Glossop Road

Rosie and I had Archers and Lemonade----and then decided to save money for the next place :p

MY WINGS!

Dan Ash and Matt:
Matts makeup was sweeeet. It looked like peeling skin!
And Dan Ash..well we helped whiten him up but yeah haha ;p

I cant remember this guys name! But his makeup skills are pretty awesome! He bought some stuff online and basically at the side on his neck, he's got exposed jugulars. Which look really realistic. And he bough red eyeliner specially for this :p

My wings!

Pit Stop 2: I dont know where this is but I think it was some pub inside this student building!
And we met daniel wood thereee!!! :) :)
Its like I see him once every year and THATS IT! But me does like dan wood.

My Wings! , DAN WOOD!, Rosie pose, Dan Ash :)

MY WINGS MY WINGS!

AND THEN CLIMAXXXXX!!

Charlie, Matt, Kate and Roz

1 tequila shot, 1 apple sourz shot and one VK Apple.
AND I STAYED SOBERRRRRRRRRR for the rest of the nighttt
I am so good haha. :)

I like this picture. hehe

Kate, Roz and Dan Ash! All Rosie's housemates who were realy lovely

Anyway at one point, I had to take off my wings because the club was just too packed and everyone was squishing it!!! So much so that everytime I had to squeeze past a small part... I would just shout
MY WINGSSSSSSS!!!!!

and basically thats all I was saying that night... Dance dance dance...MY WINGS!!!..dance dance dance.

my lover and I

With Dan Wood :)
And Rosie's kopparberg, which she kept making me hold and drink.

And Drunk Charlie.
He passed out on bed so Rosie and I had to share the futon! :P

OKAY bye bye!

Top Hat

A Malaysia post.

Ugh. Everytime I post about Malaysia, I miss the holiday I had, the freedom, the EVERYTHING. Nasi Lemak from that lady near my old house, dim sum from Megah, 1U's Zanmai, Char kueh teow from mingtien, Pavilion's Ichiban Boshi, chow kitt chilli pan mee, (wait everything seems to be about food!), JOEL!

Rah. I kinda wish I was in Glasgow, I hear they get 3 months summer break? (how is this fair?)

I realised I never acknowledged this eventhough it happened on my birthday
(The post where Joel took me to 7 ate nine was a mixture of the day before and the actual birthday day :p)
SeeKi and ZhiVen took me out for buffet a la Lemon Garden, Shangri La KL.
:)
So sweetttt (of them, because I have no more friends) haha :p
SeeKi and I.
SeeKi got me freshwaterrrr pearlsss yooo! hehehe Skanks stinko.

And because I hated the pictures we took that night, I dont have a group picture...and cu
ZHIVENwhenidreamofyou gets his own lousy picture :)
I can't remember much except the fondu and the intense talking .
my stomach is rumbling right now.

Thank you, my lovers.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

MY DOG, has a new home :)

He moved from the general household, to the kitchen, to outside....and now (at night) he is confined to the 'wet' kitchen. POOOORCH.
Thats because he's got moist dermatitis on his face (again), and he keeps going out onto the wet grass in the morning. So my mum used everything possible to block him from moving around ;p

But he is honestly spoilt (and loved)
hehehe
Because I am no longer there to tend to his wounds, my mother complains (via email) to me every single time about the trouble she goes through.

OF COURSE ITS TROUBLESOME if you're using a hairdryer to dry that area RIGHT?
HE IS SO REGAL.
mama with the hairdryer hehehe

And again, being spoiled rotten!

hello handsome! :)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And then one of those nights Nicholas was down from Ipoh;
Me, SeeKi and Nikki had dinner at Top Hat, KL (I think it was just off Jalan Stonor).

My food was the yummiest (as usual ;])
Again I dont remember much of this night except Nikki and I were going through our UK visa application form, We got free ice cream to substitute the crap.......chocolate cake was it? (But I liked the chocolate cake! haha)

Nikki and I

My amazing Pie.

Nikki's not so amazing fusion pesto spaghetti with japanese thing (I cant remember what they're called, I am so bad!!)

Top hat....aka Pai tee

SeeKi with her apple mojito :)

So because we are FAT and Insatiable, we drove over to SeeKis place after for suppperrr! :)
SeeKi's brother, Phillip---who loves cooking (and is pretty good at it too), used his french cooking/baking book to make us PANCAKESS!!! :) :)

And then we went back to complaining about our lives. *sigh.

FLASHER.

I have to do my PBL now. This is too depressing.

Goodnight world!

Edin-bra

Edinburgh
(18-20th September 2009)

Trains to Edinburgh are always packed. It frustrates me because with all the people standing up without seats (and bearing lots of bulky luggages!), I can never get to my pre-booked seat.
So for the whole train ride (Prest-Edin) I sat in this dingy first class corridor before eventually moving to the more comfortable seats.

Marcus, Nicholas and KengSeng kindly came to pick me up from Edinburgh Waverley station :)
I was immediately impressed by size of the city (I'd been in Preston under a rock for less than a month and already forgotten how a city functions!). But it was beautiful by night!

Bought 10p toothbrush and 1pound kitkatorange from the local tescos (as well as breakfast and dinner!) and spent the night in Kengs and Nikkis pad.
Marcus sleptover too just so we could all be together gether.
I shared nicholas' bed and it was soooo comfortable. There was even enough duvet for us to have our own space to sleep. :)

In the morning:

Nikki, Keng and Margus cheffed it up and cooked Bacon and eggs and mushrooms :)
Heavenly :)

My very cool meal (Everyone elses was really boring!)

Anyways after breakfast, we planned to trek to Arthurs Seat!

Nikki and Keng.

My welcoming flower from Marcus and Nicholas.

To cut a long story short, we decided to picnic at the foot of arthurs seat!
KengSeng cooked us yummy indomie haha ;p And Nicholas being Nicholas, cooked himself some of his KOKA noodles! pft! :p

Nigglas.

Margus.

Me with no sunglasses! Haha I didnt expect sun in this country at all! :p
Keng.

Lots of interesting things around town!!

Mary Queen of Scots sitting atop the sign saying SPAIN. hahaha

We decided to have dinner in town cuz Marcus was superduper hungry!
Nikki and Me!

my stella. (and partially nicholas')

With my very pathetic burger. But it was only 3 pounds ++ and I was quite full after that! :) so Win win!

Marcus - Carlsberg.

Keng!

We did the touristy stuff: went on a Ghost tour! and they brought us through these....I cant remember what they're called.
Anyway, it was spooky, no doubt. But nothing much to rattle in your panties about.

THE NEXT DAY!! WE HAD BUFFET AT
Saigon Saigon.

Omg just typing about it makes my mouth water and my stomach rumble (Though winter hunger pangs are starting to manifesttt! ugh. I dont want to put on weight!)

Nicholas doing what he does best: Concentrating on his food!

Marcus doing what he does best: Blocking his face! :)

Fruitful.
I would go up again just to have saigon saigon.
phppp. My stomach rumbles for good food!
Winter pangs are so strongg! UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

GOOD DAY

Mum

I wonder where Malaysians get the bad habit of spelling Mummy as Mommy.
(I say Malaysians because I refer to blogposts written by Malaysian bloggers)
I don't understand. In school, they teach British English not American English. So how do you all get off saying MOMMY?
So lets all stop trying to be american or cool or popular or a retard.

I don't know why this bothers me so much, but it really irks me.

Sort it out.

My poorch and my happiness:
Kanna Curry House, near Rothman's roundabout.
Best banana leaf rice we've had :)

Daylight saving

aka British Summer Time

Preston this morning as I was walking to church! Dead---as is the rest of preston haha In reality, very peaceful and calming. Makes my trip to church very enjoyable!

Why no one deemed it important to let me know that today was the day clocks move back an hour, is beyond me! Anyway, I made it in to church AN HOUR EARLY and NOBODY was there. No cars. No traffic (anywhere for that matter). Nobody at the front door.
I was stumbling to the front door to check for any notices about why church was cancelled when the priest walked out....
[This is the same priest that I greeted with a
"HELLO FATHER", and he replied with a "HELLO MOTHER!" 2 weeks before]

Me:
Father is there no mass today?!
Priest:
Have you forgotten
Er...
(I was thinking: Crap! Did I miss something when they were reading the bulletin last week? Did he say that they were going on retreat? Mannnn I should really pay attention!!)
The clocks have gone back an hour.
Ohhh.. is that it.

HAHAHA. There I was thinking I was going to get in trouble :p Decided to stick out the hour in church instead of walking back and forth.
Anyway, fortunately I dumped my camera into my bag this morning(don't carry it around anymore--just because I know nothing exciting will ever happen haha)

Oh my church is more like a chapel. Nothing like the grandeur stuff seen in London!

So this is it! Opposite the hospital ---so this is the only trip hospital bound that I am happy to make :)

The altar

The baptismal font which isn't at the front of the church (As we normally learn in R.E. :p)

The small-but-impressive stain glass window behind the altar ;p

I kinda like this. I like how the sticks just protrude from the main piece. Its very artistic me thinks! and I particularly like how their drawing lots for jesus' clothes!
Very small church.
But it does have pipe organs---so it is still functional! haha

The other side of church (from my seat)

The priest spoke to me for a while before introducing me to someone who works in the Hospital! Long story short, he offered to drive me home, I ended up spending 4 hours in his place talking about surgery (which is what he's doing), life, food, different specialities, card tricks, exercise and everything that dragged time on.

Ohhhh! I also got my burn sorted out
Basically, I'm abit of a div, and I poured hot water from my kettle onto my skin (by accident).
Anyway It hasn't been healing, and what perfect opportunity to get it seen by a doctor---than to have it seen by this dude who's doing PLASTIC SURGERY.
Which as far as burns go, was the perfect person to see (I feel like a patient finding consolation when a doctor has seen it!)

ANOTHER good thing I brought my camera with me, I got to show him the progression of my burns HAHAHA. Yes I am a weirdo for doing this. But hey, it helps some way or another.

His Diagnosis: MID-DERMAL BURN.
(and there I was thinking it was superficial epidermal layer)

1st day: BLISTER
So its only tiny, but its bad enough I think.

The next day, the blister ruptured.... and skin was exposed.

And the next: Slight inflammation around the lesion.
ugh.
Its worst today because the thing I used to cover it with ripped the dead skin back out again.

Anyway, it isn't infected (even if it looks grotesque), but my instructions: wash it with soap and water and COVER IT. (simple, but my housemates were telling me not to close it!)
And the good thing about being friends with doctors,
They actually have plasters BIG ENOUGH to cover your stupid problematic skin burns.

And THAT is how I got driven in a CLK Merc in Preston.

haha

GOOD DAY.

autopsy

A part of me wishes I was living far enough to HAVE TO buy a bus pass every week.
The hospital is 3 bus stops away/30mins walk on a lazy day/15minutes if I leg it down Sharoe Green Lane (late as usual).
The happiness of taking a bus that will get me there in 2-5minutes isn't tangible enough for me to be tempted into getting a bus pass (I want to spend less so I can buy pretty things when I do want them!)--the cost of a weekly bus pass is 7pounds20.

Anywhos I'm on GP placement now!
And already I've done a PR examination and seen two vajayjays.

=)

Very happy and also very insightful (no pun intended)

Also met up with the associate dean and he said he ENJOYED my reflective piece (haha my head is still big on that)...and then I killed it by saying I don't have time to do anything :p
And its been pretty dead so far. On my part at least--I just can't be arsed to go anywhere or do anything when I can't even find time to play the sims! haha

Anyway, as my plan goes for visiting different places every month;
Last month was Edin, Next week will be sheffield (hopefully), next 2 months will be London!
Not in need to find my species, but I think it might be good to finally get out of my little hole.
Oh Preston.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blogging about Malaysia, again.
I miss holidays so much. I wish I had a longer time to rot and spend time at home!
Actually I wouldn't mind having hospital to do, if they can just shift my family, my dog and Joel here---that would be ideal. HAHA.

Whatevs.
LONGGGG long time ago. SeeKi bought some silly pigs kidney to play with/ for us to disect.
(She's rich ma) She forked out RM2.80 for it, it was about 11.5cm in length!

Er...almost as big as my heart! (shown here represented by my left fist). Which is cool since the kidney receives the "Lion's share" of the blood ;p
(I still remember the Lion picture on prof. Hla's notes. Or was it Dr. Daw?)

To reiterate:

The Lion's share of the blood;

RAWR!
See my hair so curly and messy, looks like a lion's mane! SeeKi looks more like a bobcat so NOT a good representation.

Our surgeon tools:

2pairs of gloves? (or one to share)
One huge 'scalpel'.
forceps....or just tweezers :)

Shiny, enlarged

Mr. Ong
(eh, omg, what would they call FEMALE Surgeons? Would it be MR. too?)

And some anatomy for you:

Renal Pyramid

Minor calyces

Cortex

On cross section (what you will see on CT scan ;p)

And then she got bored and started dicing the kidney to make soup!

heehehehehehe

So ugs. but look at the monkeyyy behind meeee!!!!

Ah Imu shirts, I loved wearing them to SeeKi's place :p

GOOD DAY! Have to get back for lectures.

lame

This is admittedly very very lame,

But cheryl cole's performance for X factor was amazzinggg! What she's wearing is so sexy and purdy. A little Michael Jackson inspired and eventhough the backup dancers enhanced the performance...she still looks super hot (i think!) Just keep watching, it gets worth it once the very obvious drum beats start kicking in.
[you should see it on youtube...its bigger and you can appreciate it better :)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VMiHC3a4ihQ ]

After showing that to Kheng Xiong, he showed me this Korean band: 2PM.
And then we checked out the kids dancing to the band's music..

AND NOW!
I think
Nichkhun is prettyyy darn sexy (he's not one of the kids...he's one of the bandmembers who just jumps in to take the kids' spotlight hee hee).

hahahaha Its weird because this whole korean singers who are pretty smooth dancers just never did ANYTHING for me. But I thought this was teh seckz :)

If you would like to skip to where I was talking about... try 1:11 onwards :)

RAWRRRRRRR.
enjoy.

poorchings.

My poor doggis has fleas, ticks and mites.
:(
So he's been banned from the kitchen prison we made him sleep in at night and he's finally
sleeping outside! After many months of stalling his debut into 1-year-old-dogs-are-big-enough-to-sleep-outside-without-being-kidnapped.

I was all for it when he turned 1, but my mum still worried over mosquitoes eventhough there was a mosquito coil and a stand fan for him AND he was on the triple dose heartworm prophylactic drug.

BUT NOW!

Now he's officially sleeping outside because he's sprouting and homing a little army of bloodsuckers
POOOORCCCHHHH.

And HOW does my mama overcome this problem?

He is just so extremely cute and clever.
WHAT OTHER DOG WOULD LET YOU WRAP A SHOWER CURTAIN (hey! thats was the shower curtain we used in London!) OVER THEM WHILE THEY REST AND SLEEP?

None.

And that, is why my dog is cleverer than yours.

:)

Q.E.D.

babi-q

According to MarcoSparko; I "put up a front of false bravado."
I *am* courageous and have alot of self-confidence --- Thank you very much!
I wonder if that equates with "you are secretly very sensitive"
I cooked 6 nights worth of dinner tonight!
Its all packed and stored in the freezer so I can eat it anytime over the next month (Or two, if I push it haha)
There are 2 packs of Chicken curry (using A1 sauce)
and there are 4 packs of Chicken Tikka (using some Iceland sauce in a jar)
And I stir-fried something stir-friable vege (as opposed to lettuce because thats all I ever buy!) and voila! A meal that cost me less than two pounds ---- save the electricity and gas bill. le sigh.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I started my placement in A&E last week. This may sound slightly bias but I think I've found my 'calling'. I want to be an A&E Doctor. haha
Seriously. Maybe its all easypeasylemonsqueezyjapanesey at the moment because I'm just a student and I don't have to make any critical decisions with regards to patient care in an emergency situation...but I like what I see. I like how they get right down and grubby with their hands and do everything. Its relatively fast-paced and we'd only have to deal with the 'emergency'. Every other chronic problem or underlying disease------REFER to another department! hahaha
Its a beautiful thing.
(and not because the I spotted the Registrar driving through the car park in her Audi TT. hee hee)
I shouldn't have started with A&E.
I'm probably going to HATE ward rounds and Hate wards in general.
RAH!
But lets keep an open mind.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Some time in September; Dom, Daniel and John had a BBQ at their house!
[Also there: KhengXiong, PeiChii, Niha, SweeLeen and Tiong Rhen]
Yummy marinated chicken, Hot sizzling food (hey! I didn't get to eat any sausages that night), disgusting cider and bitter beer --- good, kind, kind people to cook for everyone.
:)
Happy.

SLR camera vs Normal lay people camera. (Just the first 6 pictures :p)
Sure, SLR CAMERAS take reallly nice artsy fartsy shots...But they don't tell you the whole truth about whats going on. Like this picture (taken with SLR)

Beautiful.

But in reality...
normal lay persons camera:
No artistic value..........but such is life. ;p

SLR:
my camera:

SLR:

my camera!
hehehe

So ends the slr vs my camera nonsense:p

10 green bottles of beer on the wall,
10 Bottles of beer,
You take one down---pass it around...

John, Daniel, Dom, TiongRhen and KX

with dom!

Me looking very amah. AND NIHA!

Our small but effective barbecue pit.

"Chefs"
(sosej makes me hunggrrrryyy)

hehe look at daniel!

peichii, niha,dome and sweeleen
KX and Tiong Lau

We were trying to capture smoke coming out from our mouthes!
(admittedly high)---not cigarette smoke. My geography teacher used to say its the interchange where
warm air meets cold air! Or something like that hehe

SL and Niha!
Vulnerable Tiong and weirdo.

AND END!
Took the bus home (good thing there was still bus service at that time!)
GOOOOOOODNIGHT WORLD!
